It's Been a Minute
Happy Labor Day everyone!
Hope yall have a had a great couple of weeks.
Here in Champe it has been a roller coaster ride. Here is why:
- we got transfers and Elder Baquedano and I are staying together for another transfer.
- we have been working with a good amount of baptismal dates. I'll tell more about that later
- we got to go to an island to contact a facebook reference. It was soo dope. Its called El Chico and it's an island between the ocean and a mangrove forest. And the boats that we take to get there don't go trough the ocean. But instead they go through the mangrove forest. It's unforgettable.
- as we were returning from the island we ran into a member that hasn't seen missionaries there in 3 years. Supposedly she is the only member there but not one member knows her because she has never had a way to drive the long distance to church. It's really sad.
- I got stomach sick again ... yay... nothing new there...
- we were going to have two baptisms. They were set in stone. They were both so excited to get baptized, but Sunday morning, before church, before their baptism, they both decided they wanted nothing to do with baptism. We tried talking with them about it but we couldn't because clash royale was stealing all their attention. (Be careful with videogames kids, they can remove your view from what really is important if you let them)
So ya. A real roller-coaster. Especially because right now we have 8 people preparing for baptism. 4 from a family whose mom is an inactive member that is wanting to return to the church (Arnoldo, Oscar, Carlos, Darling). 2 who are family of another inactive member (Cristina, Angel). A sister-in-law of some members (Diana). And a lady we met contact the other day (Esperanza)
We are working really hard to keep helping them all progress. It'll be hard considering that now until the 15th will be filled with crazy Guatemalan celebrations for their independence day. But we are looking forward to seeing their progress.
Sorry for how short this email is going to be. I'm kinda doing it a la carrera due to a lack of time today. But here is an amazing scripture to end this up.
Mateo 6:19-21
19 ¶ Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
I like to change this verse a little bit.
Treasures=desires
Treasures are just items or ideas where we put value. Treasures are just things that we desire.
So when our desires are placed in the things of the world our hearts will be placed there too. Our heart, the thing that makes us move, that keeps us alive, that moves our blood to our mind and limbs, will work to obtain that desire. But if our desires are placed on heavenly things, celestial things, our whole being, existence, purpose will be to obtain said celestial things.
One example is with the boys that were preparing to be baptized. At the end they didn't get baptized because they heeded more to temporal ideas or items.
Focus on the celestial blessings that we can receive. Grow your desire to receive them and I believe everything will be ok. Because if the true desire is there, the effort and work to gain it will be so much more easier and joyful.
Love yall. Remember to Think Celestial.
